Community
SmartSafe StreetScapes researchers hope to demonstrate that intelligent policing technology co-created and co-designed with the community will result in an outcome that best benefits those who will be using it in the long run as well as increase its chances for full adoption.
For these reasons, the participation of those with a permanent stake in the North End Smart District’s overall safety and quality of life is vital for determining the utility and usefulness of the technology proposed.
Researchers’ commitments to the community include:
- Evidence gathered at every stage of the project will be applied to subsequent stages.
- Community evaluation protocols will be incorporated at each step of the plan, maximizing opportunities between researchers and community members for co-learning and coordinated design of proposed edge video analytics.
- The most up-to-date versions of SmartSafe StreetScapes will be shared with our engagement community, and feedback that improves the system will be incorporated.
- Evaluations will consider both quantifiable and qualitative outcomes, acknowledging that concerns about privacy, safety and aesthetics must be resolved as part of successful deployment.
